Yi Fan received the Harrington-MSTP Scholar Award from the Harrington Discovery Institute 
This two-year grant will support his chemical biology research to understand drug mechanisms. He will also work with the Harrington's therapeutics development team for translation of that research.

Drew wins the Folch Pi Prize of the American Society for Neurochemistry

Congrats to Drew on being honored as the 2019 recipient of the Folch Pi Travel Prize!  This award is given by the American Society for Neurochemistry to honor a junior investigator with extraordinary promise in neurochemistry.  The award is named after Jordi Folch Pi, the founding President of ASN who, fittingly enough, pioneered methods for extracting sterols and other lipids from the brain.

Convelo enters collaboration with Genentech

Congrats to Convelo Therapeutics, co-founded by Drew and colleague Paul Tesar, on entering into a collaboration and option-to-acquire deal with Genentech!  This deal allows Convelo to accelerate its efforts to identify the first remyelinating therapeutics.

Drew and Paul co-found Convelo Therapeutics!

Convelo Therapeutics, Inc. disclosed today that it has raised $7.8 million to develop new therapeutics for diseases of myelin.  Co-founded by Drew and close collaborator Paul Tesar, Convelo is located in Cleveland and led by a team of Boston-based biotech pioneers:  CEO Derrick Rossi (co-founder of Moderna, Intellia, and Magenta) and Chief Development Officer Steve Landau (Shape, Tensha).

Drew is now the Thomas F. Peterson, Jr. Professor of Cancer and Energy Research! 

At a ceremony led by Dean Davis, Drew was honored as the Thomas F. Peterson, Jr. Professor of Cancer and Energy Research.  Tom's generous support has accelerated the research of several Case Western Reserve scientists, including two endowed chairs, and it was a pleasure to have him join the ceremony.  Thanks Tom!

Zita wins Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA F30 Fellowship!

Zita Hubler was awarded an individual research fellowship for her work investigating the mechanism of action of small molecules which enhance oligodendrocyte formation. This fellowship will provide her with funding to enhance her training as a future physician-scientist.

Drew wins the ​CWRU Jackson Award for undergraduate mentoring

Case Western Reserve University President Barbara Snyder visited the Genetics Department today to honor Drew with the J. Bruce Jackson, MD Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring. ​ A very cool honor for a junior faculty member -- nice apple, too!

Matt is awarded an ACS Organic Division SURF Fellowship!

Following close on the heels of his Goldwater Scholarship, Matt Thompson has now been awarded a competitive fellowship from the American Chemical Society to support his research this summer.  Amazing!  Drew claims he won the same fellowship as an undergrad, but it must've pre-dated the internet because we can't find any record of it...

Dharma’s paper published in ACS Chemical Biology!

This work​ identified a protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) targeting covalent chemical probe featuring a novel 2-choloroproipionamide electrophile, and this probe is the least reactive irreversible inhibitor of PDI reported to date.
